![]() ![]() ![]() Cinematic AspirationsĪs for the cinematic sections of Policenauts, I do like movies, but I wasn’t trying to use the format of games as a vehicle for movies or anything. That was one of Policenaut’s themes, that even if technology advances and we can go into space-even if something as amazing as time travel became possible-in the end you still have the persistence of human relationships and human society. In the choice of words “Home” and “Beyond” (aka “Earth” and “Colony”) it shows a cordial relationship like parent and child, but “Beyond” has two meanings for me: the physical distance between Earth and the colony, but also the 25 years that Jonathan Ingram passed in cryosleep. I wanted to take those social problems as my story theme, and the result ended up being Policenauts. All sorts of information was coming in, answering questions like “what is the effects of weightlessness on humans?” and “what does space travel feel like?” My friends and family were all talking about it. #Policenauts english rom movie#First was the release of the movie Rising Sun and the outburst of “japan bashing” that it caused, and second was the public debate over organ transplantation and problems associated with people who had suffered brain death injuries.Īlso, in 1990 Toyohiro Akiyama was the first Japanese person to go into space, and we were suddenly getting to read a lot of amazing NASA documents that had never been published in Japan before. The story itself is something I thought up in the 1990s, in response to two things. I know it sounds a little dramatic, but that’s what I’ve been thinking about for a long time now. I could try to provide more information if you tell me what exactly. And so, my hope is that for the next week or so after playing Policenauts, players would be thinking things like “I want to learn more about organ transplantation” or “I wonder what life would be like in space…” In other words, I’m trying to create a game that will have a small but positive affect on players’ actual lives. I can see nothing in the logs that could be of any help. Nothing, it just boots into the BIOS and states that the disk format is unsupported. If applicable, provide error messages, logs, screenshots, or whatever additional information that could help debugging this No, this is very specific to the patched version in CHD format. )Īre you using any setting different from default ? If so, preciseĭid this game work previously ? Do you remember when ? Is it happening with other games ? If applicable, what's the format of your cd image ? (cue/bin, ccd/img, iso, chd. What's the storage type of the game (official cd, burned cd or cd image) ? What's your frontend ? (standalone, libretro. Policenauts (Japan) - patched with unofficial English translation v1.0.1 ( ) #Policenauts english rom full#What's the full name of the game (including region) ? Anyway, the workaround is simply to mount the (WAV/ISO) CUE with Daemon Tools and then use ImgBurn to create a new BIN/CUE image of that virtual disc, and finally convert the resulting image to CHD, then it works fine. I have found a workaround of sorts, seems to work fine at the moment but was wondering if Kronos could be made to not need the workaround (as Beetle), because I don't think it should have to since it has no issue with the WAV/ISO/CUE image from which the CHD is derived. Kronos has no issue with the original 2 track binary image converted to CHD, only has issue booting the the ISO/WAV when converted to CHD. Once patched, the game runs fine, but as mentioned previously Kronos fails to boot if this is converted to CHD. #Policenauts english rom Patch#Provided along the patch are ready to use CUE files for each patched ISO/WAV pair. To them are applied some xdelta diff files for patching. Track 2: a WAV with 2 audio tracks (CUE spec). The patch consists of extracting session 1 of the discs resulting in: There is a decent unofficial translation for the Saturn version and works quite well, in fact Kronos can perfectly boot the image when patched, just doesn't handle it when converted to CHD format worthy of note that only Beetle Saturn was able to boot the CHD compressed rom, Yabause and YabaSanshiro also failed with the CHD in the same way. ![]() As you are aware, Policenauts is an exclusive Japanese game, not officially published or translated in the West. This is a very specific issue, and deals with modified disc image + CHD, nevertheless it could mean an improvement for the emulator down the line. ![]()
